Meet Miriam

Miriam (12) escaped from Mariupol and came to Rostov with her family.

She was thrilled to hear we have a Jewish school, and joined yesterday.

Her classmates welcomed her with open arms and decided to make her a welcome party today.

After giving her gifts they played a get-to-know-you game and learned that Miriam turned 12 a few weeks ago and wasn’t able to celebrate.

“There’s always a Hebrew birthday as well,” I told her half jokingly.

When we looked at the calendar we were shocked to discover that today, the 28th of Adar is actually her Hebrew birthday!

And suddenly her welcome party turned into an impromptu Bat Mitzvah celebration.
